GREATER BRISBANE ELDERS ALLIANCE

Greater Brisbane Elders Alliance (GBEA)

Established in 2022, the Greater Brisbane Elders Alliance (GBEA) was created as a key initiative to empower and amplify the voices of First Nations Elders within the Greater Brisbane region. The program, known as

The Cultural Voice of Reason, serves as a pivotal platform for addressing various challenges faced by the community, particularly impacting young people and families. With nine (9) initial meetings being held with Elders to discuss matters pertinent for change, this was driven by the leadership of

Honourable Reverend Aunty Alex Gater, to be a voice for First Nations people who aren't being heard.

The GBEA focuses on fostering cultural understanding, community support, and addressing social justice concerns. The program has become an invaluable resource, offering guidance, wisdom, and leadership in navigating complex social issues. The Elders involved in the Alliance provide a trusted and respected voice, offering solutions to concerns such as youth disengagement, family support, and broader community well-being.

Through this work, the Greater Brisbane Elders Alliance aims to bridge the generational gap, empowering First Nations youth and families by promoting cultural awareness, healing, and social justice. Its efforts continue to play a crucial role in tackling systemic challenges and shaping a more equitable and inclusive future for the community.

This summary highlights the core values and mission of the GBEA, showcasing its importance in addressing social justice issues and supporting First Nations communities.
